China site of huge oil discovery...link dated 03-27-2007..."PetroChina may have tapped into the largest oil reserves to be discovered in China in the past decade, government officials confirmed Tuesday. PetroChina's big oil find in the Jidong field in Bohai Bay off the coast of Hebei is currently estimated at about 2.2 billion barrels, Global Insight said...Future exploration work over the next five to 10 years could raise the overall reserve level to as much as 7.3 billion barrels, Global Insight said"...

3000 billion tons of coal off Norway's coastline...link dated 12-28-2005..."This summer, students from Norwegian University of Science and Technology analyzed data from 600 wells drilled on the Norwegian Shelf of the North Sea. They calculated that there are 3000 billion tons of coal off the Norwegian coast. Most of the reserves are located at Haltenbanken. This compares to today's proven and recoverable world reserves of 900 billion tons of coal...Geologists have known for a long time that there are vast amounts of coal in the North Sea. What we have done now, is to estimate how much there actually is, says energy advisor with Statoil New Energy, said Olav K�rstad"...
